Speech Team

Seneca Irish Speech Team
Head Coach:  Mrs. Marilee Applebee, rooms 205 and 251
Assistant Coaches:  Zach Applebee and Mrs. Jennifer Doloski

For the 2020-2021 season, Speech Meets will be virtual!  Coaches across the state are working hard at figuring out just what that’s going to look like.
What is Speech Team?

Speech is an IHSA activity that runs through the traditional winter season.  We start practicing in early October and compete in meets on Saturdays in December-February.

We learn and practice public speaking skills that will benefit students for their entire lives.
There is an event for anyone!  Here are 14 different events that students can participate in:

Dramatic Duet Acting--2 people in a dramatic skit
Dramatic Interpretation--A dramatic monologue or multi-character script
Extemp Speaking--Answers a new current events question each week
Humorous Duet Acting--2 people in a funny skit
Humorous Interpretation--A funny monologue or multi-character script
Impromptu Speaking--Speaks on a new topic every round
Informative Speaking--And original, researched, student-written, and memorized speech
Oratorical Declamation--Giving someone else’s speech, memorized.  TedTalks
Original Comedy--An original, student-written comedy routine
Original Oratory--An original, researched, student-written, persuasive speech
Poetry Reading--Reading and interpretation of a poem or poems
Prose Reading--Reading and interpretation of a short story or excerpt

Radio Speaking--Giving a new news, sports, and weather report each week.
