Derber, Mr. Levi
Special Education Department
Mr. Levi Derber is a special education teacher who currently teaches self-contained Math as well as US History. He also provides support to students in Resource. This is Mr. Derber’s first year at Seneca High School. Previously, he was a special education teacher at LaSalle-Peru High School for five years where he taught English and co-taught Social Studies. Outside of the classroom, Mr. Derber also is an assistant football coach for the Fighting Irish.
A native of the Illinois Valley, Mr. Derber graduated from Hall High School in Spring Valley. He then attended Illinois Wesleyan University, where he played football for four years and studied History. He then attended Northern Illinois University where he received his bachelor’s degree in Special Education. Later, Mr. Derber earned a masters degree in Learning Design and Leadership from the University of Illinois.
Mr. Derber is married to his wife, Katie, who is a 3rd grade teacher at Dimmick Grade School in rural LaSalle. They have two children together, Charles (age 6) and Samantha (age 3) and currently live in Peru. In his free time, Mr. Derber enjoys sports, camping/hiking, cooking, playing board games with family, watching reruns of Seinfeld and The Office, reading, and spreadsheets.
